How to Remove Heat Spots From a Kitchen Table

If you have ever set a cup of hot coffee or tea on your kitchen table, especially a wooden table, you know it results in ugly, white heat spots or rings that appear permanent. The actual cause is excess moisture and humidity trapped on the first layer of the table's surface. One quick solution is covering the spots using a tablecloth, which only hides the problem. If the white spot comes from placing a hot container on your table, wait a couple of days to see whether the spot disappears. If the white spot remains, then explore some other solutions.

Things You'll Need

  • White T-shirt or a white cotton towel
  • Steam iron

Instructions

    • 1

Place a white T-shirt or white cotton towel on top of the white spots or rings, doubling up the shirt or towel.

    • 2

Pour water in the steam iron reservoir and set the steam iron to a low heat setting, lower than the cotton setting.

    • 3

Iron on top of the T-shirt or towel you placed over the spots. Keep the iron moving rather than sitting still over the spots.

    • 4

Check the spots each time you run the iron across them and wipe up any excess moisture you make. It may take several swipes with the iron, but soon you will notice the white spots beginning to disappear.

Wait about 30 minutes or so after the white spots or ring removal, then apply a little furniture polish with a soft cloth to your kitchen table. This restores the dull surface the table may have acquired with the iron treatment.
