Veneer furniture sometimes blisters due to extreme heat. It is not always impervious to extreme temperatures. There are simple ways to restore blistered veneer furniture back to its original condition.
Lacquer thinner will soften the blister, and melt the top coating of veneer, without damaging the wood.
The lacquer begins to loosen the blister on the veneer after 5 to 10 minutes. The blister can then be scraped away with a putty knife or sharp tool at the surface.
Wood glue can be applied underneath the wood to re-attach the blistered area, or the veneer can be filled with a surface bonding agent.
Once the bonding agent is dry, a clear coat of varnish can be applied to match the surface. Sometimes a light sanding is required to even out the grain of the wood once the glue or new veneer is dry, and varnish can be applied as the last step.
