How to Finish With Briwax

Apply Briwax using a soft cloth. Choose a cloth that is 100 percent cotton to avoid unwanted streaking or scratching. Select cotton kitchen towels, T-shirts or cloth diapers for the best results. Cotton cloths generate a small amount of heat which helps spread the wax when rubbing the Briwax on the wood surface. Dip the soft cloth in the soft solid form finishing wax to slightly cover the center of the cloth. Do not use a large clump of Briwax. Apply it using small circular or back and forth motions. Redip the cloth in the Briwax as more wax is needed.

Use the same cotton to create luster. Wipe off the excess wax and briskly rub the Briwax into the wood surface using the same cotton cloth. Use a circular rotating motion to buff the finishing product to a brilliant luster finish. Generate a small amount of heat using friction as the Briwax is buffed into the surface of the wood. The texture of the Briwax will change slightly due to the warming of the finishing materials. It will become slightly more fluid.

Use steel wool for deteriorated wood surfaces. Coarse applicators like steel wool can be used to remove severely weathered or mildly damaged wood surfaces. Select a fine grade of steel wool to avoid damaging the surface. Apply a small amount of Briwax to the steel wool and use a circular buffing motion to penetrate the wood's surface.

Observe what is happening to the finish and discontinue the use of steel wool if the original finish is completely rubbing away. Attempt to recondition the original finish without removing it entirely. Briwax works as a lubricant on steel wool to reduce potential scratches. For tight wood surfaces like those found in carvings, use a single finger in a back and forth motion to apply and buff the Briwax.

Select a soft bristled buffing tool that is similar to a brush that would be used when polishing leather shoes, and gently stroke the wooden surface. Make sure the bristles on the brush are soft enough not to scratch the wooden surface. Use a circular motion to create the maximum amount of shine.
