Workbench Ideas

A workbench can be used for hobbies and many areas of the home and garden. In the garage, the workbench can house power tools and fishing supplies, as well as cleaning equipment. For gardeners, a workbench is ideal for housing all the seeds and labels for new plantings. Crafters can even use a workbench in a spare bedroom. Before purchasing a new workbench or building one from scratch, think about where and how it will be used.
  1. Garden Tools

    • Workbenches can be incorporated into greenhouses and vegetable garden plans. Set them up next to the garden water hose for cleaning spades and shovels and for rinsing off vegetables before bringing them into the house. Outdoor workbenches should be made of weatherproof materials or have a protective finish.

    Garage Spaces

    • Workbenches can be built into garage spaces or be portable, with locking wheels, so work tools can be used where they are needed. Drawers and shelves will help organize hand tools, and power tools can be permanently mounted on the tabletops. Stainless steel tabletops are sturdy, but drawers and shelves can more easily be mounted on the surface of wooden workbenches.

    Craft Rooms

    • Crafters, scrapbookers and other hobbyists could put a workbench to good use. A large flat surface can be used for paper folding and the layout of scrapbook photo collages. Shelving can be attached to the top of the workbench to house painting supplies, and small drawers underneath the surface can store frequently used supplies like stamps, scissors and colored pencils. Workbenches can also be fitted with spool rollers for ribbon and tape for easy access.
