DIY: Corner Table

Tight spaces require space-efficient furniture. Take advantage of a room's corners with a corner table, a table shaped like a triangle that utilizes a three-leg balancing system for stability, unlike more conventionally shaped tables. While this is not a full-size table, it can be used as a phone table or a small study area for a child. Building this table is a moderate woodworking project that should take a beginner two days on average to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area where the table will go. Determine how far the table will stick out from the wall. Leave enough room for a chair to easily move in and out of the area.

    • 2

Measure and mark the line locations on the wood board with a carpenter's pencil. Draw a triangle shape for the table on the board.

    • 3

Cut out the triangle using a jigsaw.

    • 4

Mark the position of the three leg brackets onto the wood. Position the two front legs at least 2 inches from the corners and the third leg 4 inches away from the back corner of the table, equidistant from the sides.

    • 5

Attach the brackets to the bottom of the table.

    • 6

Screw the legs into the brackets.

    • 7

Sand the top and sides of the tables with the power rotating sander. Create a smooth surface by sanding with the 90-grit sandpaper and then progressively increasing the grit amounts until you use the 220-grit. Sand the wood completely smooth with no splinters.

Apply shellac to the sides and top of the table with a sponge brush. Always go with the grain for a smooth finish.
