DIY Bamboo Table

Bamboo is a grass that can be refined into a wood-like material. The fibers of the plant are first separated and then pressed into a laminate. The resulting bamboo boards are similar to engineered fiberboard. Bamboo tables are lightweight and tend to be just as durable as wooden tables. Bamboo boards can usually be processed with the same tools used for wood working.

Instructions

    • 1

Set two, 32-inch bamboo boards so they are on edge, parallel and 23 inches apart. Position two, 23-inch boards on edge--perpendicular and 30 inches apart--between the first two boards Drive screws through the 32-inch boards and into the ends of the 23-inch boards. Use eight screws for this task. You should have a 25-by-32-inch frame.

    • 2

Position a 29-inch board perpendicular to each inside corner of the frame. The ends of these boards must be flush with one side of the frame. These are the legs to your table. Insert four screws through each corner and into the legs.

    • 3

Position the table upright so it is standing on its legs. Lay the 25-inch boards on top of the frame so the ends are flush with both 32-inch boards. These are the table-top boards. The two outside boards should be flush with the 23-inch boards on the frame and the ends of the 32-inch boards.

    • 4

Sand down the entire bamboo table with the medium and fine-grade sand paper. Wipe the table down using your tack cloth and apply the linseed oil.
