How to Repair a Scratch on a Table

Tables withstand heavy everyday items such as schoolbooks and grocery bags. Eventually, however, scratches will happen. Depending on the depth of the scratch, you may be able to minimize it with a little elbow grease. If not, you can repair the scratch with supplies found at your local discount or do-it-yourself store.

Things You'll Need

  • Furniture polish
  • Clean cloth
  • Pigmented oil polish
  • Walnut
  • Wax stick
  • Hard paste wax

Instructions

    • 1

      Spray furniture polish on the scratch. Wipe over the scratch with the cloth and buff it out.

      Dab a pigmented oil polish onto a clean cloth. Rub it over the table and scratch. Allow the oil to sink it and make the scratch a darker color.

      Break open a walnut. Rub the meat of the nut into the scratch. The nut oil will darken the scratch.

      Run a hard paste wax along the top of the scratch. Let the wax melt into the scratch and fill it up. Rub it lightly to even the wax fill to the height of the table. Buff the area with a clean cloth.

      Scrape the top of the scratch with a furniture patching stick in the color of the table. Even the height of the residue of the patching stick to the table. Buff with a clean cloth.
