How to Recut a Table Leg

You may want to change the height of a table, or adjust the height of one of the legs if the table rocks or tilts from uneven legs. You can recut a table leg and just change the length of the leg, or you can also change the shape of a leg. If you recut a table leg to be a tapered shape, it will generally have a more delicate appearance compared to legs with just straight cuts.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove a table leg from the table by using a screwdriver to remove the screws that attach the table leg to the table. Measure the table legs and make a mark or note of how much length you want to remove from the table leg so that it will be even with the other table legs.

    • 2

Put the table leg on a table saw bench so that the end of the leg being cut is close to the saw blade. Secure the table leg to a table saw bench using clamps.

    • 3

Cut the table leg where you have marked it. Make sure to make an level cut by running the saw evenly across the leg. Once the leg is recut, sand the wood where it was cut to smooth it out.
