Minwax Stain Instructions

Miniwax wood stain is a water-based product that cleans up with soap and water. It is recommended for use on wood surfaces like cabinets, doors, woodwork and furniture. Its low odor and quick drying time make it ideal for interior projects. It's available in 50 tones and colors mixed at hardware store paint counters at the time of purchase. One quart covers 100 square feet.

Instructions

      Sand or strip old finishes from wood surfaces. Wipe clean. Apply wood putty to any holes or cracks. Let it dry and sand again to a smooth surface. Remove sanding dust with a damp cloth. Apply Minwax pre-stain wood conditioner with a clean paint brush. Let it dry.

      Stir stain before and during use. Apply stain with a clean brush or rag in the direction of the wood grain. Leave stain on wood up to three minutes but no longer. Wipe off excess stain with a clean cloth. Apply a second coat after two hours if a darker stain is preferred. Wipe off excess stain. Let it dry for three hours or longer before applying finish.

      Choose a water-based protective clear finish. Stir it before and during use. Apply a thin coat of finish with a clean paint brush. Let it dry. Repeat for additional coats of finish.
