How to Extend Garden Tables

Once you've created your own little outdoor Eden, taking the time to enjoy it is a must. Sitting down to to relax with friends and family in your garden setting is a balm to the spirit, as well as an opportunity to show off the results of your cultivation efforts. Garden tables may be simple matters that boast a pine or redwood effect. Tables also may be ornate affairs made of steel or wrought iron; clear or mottled glass may also be part of the design. Extending such tables is not difficult..

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your table's height and width.

    • 2

Look for a table of height and width nearly identical to your outdoor table. You may already own such a table. If not, scour department, home-improvement and big-box stores.

    • 3

Position the found table right next to your garden table.

    • 4

Throw a tablecloth across both tables to hide the separation between the two. Ensure an overhang of at least 4 to 6 inches on both table sides.

    • 5

Warn potential users of the table about the gap. If you are throwing a catered garden party, for example, the catering staff as well as the guests should know the table has been extended in a makeshift way. Putting plates, glasses or any weight against the gap can lead to injury or spills.
