How to Glue Tile to a Metal Table

Adding tile to a metal table can add a splash of color and decoration to the furniture piece. Whether you're making an intricate mosaic design with many small tiles or putting larger tiles in place to make a new tabletop, glue can provide an alternative to cement or grout. Regardless of the tile size you can use the same method for attachment.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Check the surface of both the tile back and the metal table to make sure they're clean. Remove any dust or debris to ensure the glue can properly adhere to the surfaces.

    • 2

Plan the layout of the tile on the metal table. You may want to lightly sketch lines along the metal surface where the tile will go. You can also do a dry-run of the layout by putting all the tiles into place on the tabletop before applying glue.

    • 3

Fill a glue pan with enough urethane glue to cover the tiles. Cover a glue roller with a layer of the urethane glue.

    • 4

Roll the glue roller over the entire back surface of the tile until the tile back is covered with a thin layer of glue.

    • 5

Press the glue-covered tile into your desired location on the metal table and hold it into place for several seconds to allow time for the glue to set. Urethane glue sets rapidly and is ideal for attaching non-similar surfaces such as ceramic and metal.

Allow a glue curing time of 24 hours or more before using the metal table.
