DIY Pedestal Table

Pedestal tables add a touch of elegance to any room, and are especially suited for a small dining table or a breakfast table. The simplest way to make a handsome do-it-yourself pedestal table is to purchase a ready-made pedestal, or an old table from a thrift store with a pedestal you can reuse. You can have a new pedestal table in a matter of hours and at half the expense of purchasing a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the table to right-side down on the work surface then center the pedestal, feet up, on top of the table top. Rectangular, square or circular table tops will all work for this pedestal table.

    • 2

Drill four holes, evenly spaced, through the top of the pedestal into the underside of the table top. Size the holes to fit the flat head bolts, and to be as deep as half the depth of the table top.

    • 3

Screw the table top down with the flat head bolts and drill. Turn the table upright so that it is standing on the pedestal, then sand the entire table.

    • 4

Paint a coat of primer over the table and let dry as per the primer manufacturer's instructions.

    • 5

Lightly sand the primer, then apply a coat of paint. Let the paint dry, then lightly sand and repaint. Repeat a third time for a smooth, satin finish to your simple DIY pedestal table.
