How to Turn Storage Boxes into Tables

If you have cardboard storage boxes but no room to store them in and are in need of some extra table space, you can convert those empty cardboard storage boxes into tables. Though it may seem to be an odd material from which to construct a table, the task is quite simple, and you'll have sturdy tables to hold pictures, books, remotes or anything else you need space for.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the storage boxes of all contents. Tape the inside corners to reinforce the boxes.

    • 2

Measure the inside dimensions of the box. Get the depth, width and length. These will vary, but in general they are square in shape and the dimensions can range from 1-foot deep by 1-foot wide by 1-foot long or 2-foot deep by 2-foot wide by 2-foot long or any other size.

    • 3

Put on safety glasses and cut 12 equal size pieces of 1 inch by 1 inch wood to match the inside dimensions of your cardboard storage box. Divide the 12 cut pieces of lumber into three piles, having 4 cut beams in each pile. Fasten two of the three piles together with a nail gun to create two squares.

    • 4

Connect the remaining four cut lumber pieces between the two formed squares to create a hallow "frame." This will act as an internal support frame for your storage box in order to make it sturdy enough to be a functional table.

    • 5

Stuff the inside with foam to make the box more sturdy and to help maintain its shape. Fold the flaps down and tape together to hold the frame and foam inside. Turn the box over and drape with a cloth to convert the storage box to a table.
