How to Remove Scratches From an Australian Pine Table

Australian pine makes beautiful dining and living room furniture pieces that can complement any space. Though Australian pine is durable for regular use, pine is not a dense wood like mahogany or oak. As a result, normal wear and tear can leave unsightly scratches in an Australian pine table. Rather than incur the cost of hiring a professional furniture restorer, you can remove the scratches yourself from your Australian pine table.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on rubber gloves and combine 4 parts warm water with 1 part trisodium phosphate in a clean bucket.

    • 2

Dampen clean rags in the mixture and wipe down your pine table, rubbing over the scratches vigorously. Let the table air dry once thoroughly cleaned.

    • 3

Gently abrade the table with 240-grit sandpaper to slightly rough the surface and begin to conceal the scratch. Wipe away any dust with a tack cloth.

    • 4

Fill the scratches on the table with wood filler using a plastic putty knife to spread it evenly. Let the filler dry according to the manufacturer's suggested drying time.

    • 5

Dampen microfiber cloth with wood-oil soap, then wipe down the table, concentrating on the scratches. Allow the wood-oil soap to dry, then buff thoroughly with a clean microfiber cloth to finish. The scratches in your Australian pine table should now be invisible.
