How to Troubleshoot Shuv-It

Nothing seems to aggravate restaurant patrons more than a table that tilts or wobbles throughout their meal service. Members of the wait staff need to keep alert and when such a situation occurs, have a handy gizmo called a "Shuv-It," a wedge-shaped piece of dark colored rubber, nearby and ready to use. Oftentimes, during the most hectic periods of the day, the deployment of a Shuv-It fails for one reason or another.

Instructions

    • 1

Instruct the members of your wait staff on the proper action to take when a patron complains of a wobbly table. The problem with the table needs a quick resolution.

    • 2

Adjusting a fully set table can result in a calamitous if not embarrassing situation. Two members of the staff, working together, can quickly level a wobbly table. One person protects the table-top items from spilling or sliding while another person determines the location of the leg creating the wobble.

    • 3

Wiggle the table slightly to determine which leg has more space between the leg pad, or "slider," and the floor. Quite often you will discover a worn or missing leg pad or slider.

    • 4

Insert the Shuv-It under the offending leg and check the table for level. In the event the table still wobbles, perform additional troubleshooting.

    • 5

Examine the leg of the table to the left or right of where you inserted the Shuv-It. You may see a small space between another leg slider and the floor. In that case, insert another Shuv-It. Recheck the table for level.
