Instructions

    • 1

Sand an existing metal or wood side table with light grade sand paper to remove the top coat of the existing finish. Wipe the table completely with a damp cloth to remove the sanding debris.

    • 2

Clean the table with wood or metal cleaner. Allow the table to dry. Mirror mastic will adhere best to a clean surface.

    • 3

Dry fit mirror tiles to the table top. Work from the center of the table top out to the sides. Mirror tiles are typically 12-inch square tiles, but you can also use smaller mosaic mirror tiles that are 2 inches or less to make the mirrored side table. The 12-inch square mirror tiles are available in home improvement stores in a variety of design styles. Designs include antique, beveled or plain. Look for mosaic mirror tiles in home improvement stores and craft stores.

      Put on safety glasses.

    • 5

Cut the mirror tiles along the outside edge to fit if necessary. To cut mirror tiles, mark a cut line on the face of the mirror tile; use a straight edge to ensure a straight line.

    • 6

Score the cut line with a glass cutter. Fit the rubber grip of a pair of running pliers at one edge of the mirror tile so that the score line is in the center of the rubber grip. Squeeze the pliers to snap the glass along the score line. Check the fit to make sure that the cut tile does not protrude beyond the top of the side table.

Apply mirror mastic to the back side of the mirror tiles in an S formation. Press the tiles to the table top, working from the center out. Cover the table top. Follow the glue manufacturer's guidelines for dry times. Repeat the process to cover the side table legs or sides of a cubed table.

Clean the mirror tiles with acetone. Apply clear silicone caulking around the outside edges of the tiles to soften sharp angles.
