How to Make Vintage Window Tables

An old window is just the right size and shape for the top of a table. Most home improvement stores and hardware stores sell wooden legs that act as the base for the table. You can even replace the store-bought legs with legs from a broken or damaged table. The combination of wood and glass is strong enough that the finished table supports decorative items and a few other smaller objects. Make an indoor or an outdoor table from an old window and a few other tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the glass panes inside the window with pieces of masking tape. Sand down the wood areas of the old window with fine-grit sandpaper. Remove the old paint from the window with the sandpaper and smooth out any bumps or dents in the wood.

    • 2

Wipe the window off with a damp cloth and dry with a second cloth. Paint the wood window with your favorite color of paint and a paintbrush. Let the first coat completely dry and paint on a second coat. Once the layers dry, peel away the masking tape.

    • 3

Flip the window upside down and attach the four mounting brackets onto the window, placing one at each corner. Screw the screws through the mounting bracket and into the wood. Use small enough screws that the metal does not poke through the other side of the window.

    • 4

Sand down the four legs chosen for the project. Paint each leg with paint that matches or complements the paint for the window. Depending on the shape of the legs, you may need to paint a section of the leg, wait until the paint dries and turn it over before painting the other side.

Slide the four legs into the mounting brackets and screw the legs to the table. Turn the table upside down and press down on the window. Ensure that the table stands stable. If you feel any swaying or movement, check that you attached the screws and mounting brackets properly.
