How To Make a Coffee Table with a Marble Top

Irregular pieces of marble or granite left over from kitchen or bathroom remodeling projects can find new life as coffee table tops. Uncomplicated marble table tops are also great for patio or deck, since they are weather-resistant. You can find a base for the table at a plant nursery with a wide selection of cement pedestals. If the marble top is round, you need just one pedestal. For a rectangular coffee table, you need two pedestals.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 identical cement pedestals, 18 inches high
  • Craft paper
  • Scissors
  • 1/4 yard heavy wool felt
  • Straight pins
  • Marble slab, about 39 inches long and 22 inches wide

Instructions

    • 1

Place the craft paper on the top of one pedestal and draw around the edges of the pedestal top for a template. Cut out the template.

    • 2

Pin the template to the wool felt and cut out a piece of felt. Repeat.

    • 3

Place the wool felt on the pedestal tops. Position the pedestals in the planned site of the coffee table, spaced 20 inches apart.

    • 4

Place the marble slab on the pedestals. The wool felt cushions and stabilizes the marble top on the completed coffee table.
