Instructions

    • 1

Fill in any holes, chipped veneer and any other imperfections in the table with wood filler. Allow the filler to dry completely, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Sand until completely smooth using fine-grade sandpaper.

    • 2

Sand the entire table using medium-grade sandpaper and an orbital sander. Sand just enough to roughen the finish so it will accept the paint. If your coffee table has intricate carving or other details, you may need to fold a piece of sandpaper to get into tight areas.

    • 3

Wipe down the coffee table with a damp cloth to remove all traces of sawdust.

    • 4

Spray on a coat of spray primer. Use long strokes, going back and forth evenly to avoid drips. Allow the primer to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions -- typically 24 hours.

    • 5

Spray on at least two coats of interior spray paint in the same manner as the primer. Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying the second.

    • 6

Allow the table to dry for 48 to 72 hours before use. Make sure the paint is completely dry and not tacky to the touch, before setting anything on the surface.
