Measure the length and width of the glass in the coffee table with a tape measure. Double-check the measurement to ensure the replacement glass fits. Write down the measurements.
Place your hands underneath the glass and push it up to remove it from the table. Many glass coffee tables have a wood or metal frame that the glass sits in.
Ask an assistant who is wearing heavy-duty gloves to lift the glass out once you push it up. Some glass coffee tables have an adhesive around the underneath edge to secure the glass. If this is the case, pry the glass up with a putty knife, taking care not to break or chip the glass.
Apply a glass bonding adhesive to the interior frame of the coffee table if the original glass was glued in. Do this once you bring home the replacement glass. Squeeze a thin bead of the adhesive around the entire perimeter of the frame that holds the glass.
Lower the new glass top into the coffee table frame with heavy duty gloves on your hands.
Press the glass down firmly around the edges to form a bond with the adhesive.
Wipe off any excess adhesive that oozes out with a cloth dampened with nail polish containing acetone.Do this before the adhesive has a chance to dry.
