How to Make a Table from Reclaimed Hardwood Flooring

Stand two 2- by 2- by 36-inch posts upright, and set them about 2 feet apart. Lower a 1- by 4- by 32-inch board on top of them, and move out the posts until they are even with the ends of the board. Drill holes through both boards, evenly spaced, with two holes in each post. Place a 2-inch wood screw into each hole, and tighten them flush with the board's surface. Repeat with a second set of posts and a 1- by 4- by 32-inch board.

Arrange the hardwood floorboards into the shape of a 1- by 36- by 60-inch tabletop, cutting them with a saw as necessary for straight edges.

Turn the assembled tabletop upside down, and position the two assembled posts on top of it, with the flat boards touching the tabletop and the posts in the air. Arrange the flat boards so they are evenly spaced and touching all tabletop boards. Drill two holes through the flat boards and into each tabletop board, and use 2-inch wood screws to secure them all in place. Add additional 1- by 4- by 32-inch boards evenly to the surface of the tabletop if necessary to secure them all.

Right the table, and fill any holes with clear-drying caulking. Allow three hours for the caulking to dry. Coat the tabletop with a thin coat of polyurethane, using even, smooth strokes of the brush. Allow the polyurethane to dry for four hours, then apply a second coat. Repeat for a total of four coats, then allow the table to dry overnight.
