How to Weld a Table

Choose which side of a 30-inch diameter round sheet of metal is going to be the top of your table. Set the table top on your floor with the bottom up.

Draw a chord, a line that intersects the circle twice, anywhere on the circle using a yard stick and a permanent marker. Find the center of the chord. Draw a perpendicular line at the center of the chord using a compass extending the line to the edges of the circle.

Find the center of the new line. Draw a perpendicular line that extends to the edges of the circle. This X determines where the legs of the table will be placed.

Mark the ends of the X where the lines touch the circle edges 1-inch from the edge with the permanent marker. Use a different color of marker if the lines are confusing.

Turn on your TIG welder and insert your tungsten rod into your torch.

Scratch the area of the 1-inch marks with a wire metal brush to remove any rust, dirt or debris.

Set one round metal leg on one 1-inch mark and spot weld the leg to the tabletop by welding four spots around the seam between the leg and the table. Spot weld the other three legs to the other 1-inch marks on the tabletop.

Finish welding the legs to the table top using a 1/8-inch diameter welding rod.

Smooth the welds around the legs using a metal sander.

Insert 2-inch rubber stoppers into the open holes at the bottom of the legs.

Flip the table over to stand upright.

Drip metal adhesive inside the groove of a 94-inch strip of rubber edging and attach the edging around the edge of the tabletop.
