How to Build a Glass Bar Table for a Basement

A sturdy and attractive glass bar is a useful addition to a basement and is perfect for a gathering spot. By using glass as the bar surface, it is easy to clean and will not suffer from stains or warping. Cement pillars, found at garden supply stores, will serve as bases for the bar. A set of wrought iron bar stools will complete the bar, which is also suitable for use outdoors on a patio or deck.

Things You'll Need

  • Two 42-inch high cement pedestals
  • Craft paper
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • 1/4-yard heavy felt fabric
  • 70-inch by 30-inch beveled-edge piece of glass

Instructions

    • 1

Place the craft paper over the top of one cement pedestal and trace around the edge of the pedestal with a pencil. Cut out the tracing for a pattern.

    • 2

Pin the pattern to the felt with straight pins. Cut out the felt piece with scissors. Repeat to make a second felt piece.

    • 3

Place the felt pieces on the tops of the pedestals, positioned 25 inches apart. The felt will cushion the glass bar top and does not need to be glued in place. Place the beveled glass bar top on the pedestals.
