Instructions

    • 1

Use a measuring tape to measure the space where you intend to place your finished glass table. Take the length, width and height of the space to determine the dimensions of your table. You may also choose to use a table you already own for reference.

    • 2

Cut four pieces of 2-by-4-inch hardwood using a circular saw to construct the support frame for your table. Two of these pieces of hardwood should be cut to the desired length of the table, minus six inches. The remaining two pieces should be cut to the desired width of the table, minus 10 inches.

    • 3

Arrange the four pieces of hardwood in rectangular frame, standing the boards upright on their longest narrow edges. Sandwich the shorter boards between the ends of the longer boards and align the outside edges. Secure the frame by driving 3-inch wood screws through the longer boards into the thickness of the shorter boards sandwiched between.

    • 4

Cut four equal-length pieces of 4-by-4-inch hardwood to the desired height of the table to serve as the legs. If you know how thick your glass tabletop will be you may choose to subtract this thickness from the length of your table legs so the table will sit at the exact height you prefer.

    • 5

Stand one table leg upright in each of the four corners inside the rectangular hardwood frame. Two sides of each leg should be flush against the inside edges of the frame in each of the corners.

    • 6

Attach the legs by driving 3-inch wood screws through the outside of the frame into the legs. Drive additional screws at an angle through the table legs into the inside edges of the frame. Flip the table over and stand it upright on the ground when finished.

    • 7

Cut four 6-by-6-inch squares out of a sheet of 1-inch hardwood. Apply a bead of wood glue to the back of each square and place them flat on top of the table frame at each corner.

    • 8

Align the edges of the squares with the outside edges of the frame and the inside edges of the table legs. Drive 3-inch wood screws through the top of the wooden squares into the frame below to secure them in place.

    • 9

Paint or stain your wooden table frame to match the decor scheme in your room. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before moving on.

    • 10

Cut four 6-by-6-inch squares out of black felt or foam padding. Spread a generous amount of craft glue on the surface of each of the wooden squares and press one of the felt squares into the glue in each corner of the frame. The felt will serve as padding to keep the glass table top from being scratched.

    • 11

Have a professional at your local hardware store cut you a sheet of tempered glass to the desired length and width of your table top. The thickness of the glass you use is up to you, but keep in mind that the thicker the glass is, the heavier it will be.

    • 12

Lay the glass flat on top of the table frame and adjust it until it is centered. The tabletop should hang over the edges of the wooden frame by approximately 3 inches on all four sides.
