How to Fix Desk Drawers From Falling Down

Desk drawers often have guides attached to the bottom or the sides. These guides help the drawer move smoothly and prevent the drawer from falling back into the desk. Broken glides will not hold up a desk drawer properly, and it may tilt or fall down. Repairing the drawer guides on a desk is a relatively cheap repair and does not require professional wood work. If the guides have broken off, splintering the wood, you may have to have the drawer professionally repaired.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Guides
  • Wood filler

Instructions

    • 1

Pull out on the drawer and lift up slightly to remove it from the guides.

    • 2

Remove the screws from the guide on the drawer. Remove the guide.

    • 3

Remove the screws from the guides on the inside of the desk and pull them out.

    • 4

Bring the old guides to a hardware store to find the correct size and style to replace the old guides.

    • 5

Fill the old holes in the desk with wood filler and allow the filler to dry.

    • 6

Place the new guides on the drawer and insert the screws into the wood filler. The wood filler ensures the new screws attach properly. Insert the drawer into the desk.
