Ping-Pong, also called table tennis, is played on a table that resembles a tennis court. The object of the game is to hit the ball back and forth until someone misses the ball or it misses the table. Making a homemade table for a game of table tennis only requires a few materials to make a stationary or foldable table.
The table is 9-feet long, 5-feet wide and has a thickness of 1 inch. Use a piece of sanded plywood for the table top so there won't be any rough spots. Before buying a piece of plywood, bounce a Ping-Pong ball on the piece to see if the ball will bounce at least 9 inches when dropped from a height of 11 inches. If you are making a fold-up table, you will need hinges for the center of the table where the cut is made to fold up the sides.
Make the legs for the table out of 2-by-2s, 30 inches long. Use 1-by-1s as the braces fitted between the legs to give the table legs more stability. If you are making a fold-up table, you will need eight legs or six legs for a stationary table. Legs can be secured to the table using brackets, and the braces are secured using 1-inch nails.
Paint the entire table top with green paint. Around the entire table edge, you paint a straight 3/4-inch thick white stripe and a 1/8-inch thick white stripe down the center of the table the long way. The center of the table from each side of the table is 2 1/4 inches in from the edge. Use masking tape to mark the area to paint for a straight line.
After assembling the table, you will need a game set. The set will have a net, four game paddles and table tennis balls. Center the net on the table and attach on the left and right sides of the table with the clamps that come with the set. The net must be centered 4 1/2 feet from each end of the table.
