How to Make an Easy DIY Rustic Table

Sometimes the repurposed and upcycled look not only saves you money but it also adds distinctive character to your interior rooms. Extend the usefulness of old items and create new furniture that you need. Make an easy DIY rustic table using an old door and two wood sawhorses. This project is simple enough to complete within one workday using only basic tools and materials.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 wood door
  • 2 wood sawhorses
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • 5/16 inch hex-head drill bit
  • 6 wood screws (5/16-inch hex-head, coarse thread, 3 to 4 inches long)

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the hinges, doorknob and other hardware from the door to leave only the wood door.

    • 2

Place the door on a flat work surface where you can measure the points you will drive the screws. A standard door has a width of 36 inches and a height of 80 inches. Make marks for the screws 15 inches from the top and bottom edges of the doors. Make one mark at the center point between the side edges and make the other two marks halfway between the center mark and each side edge.

    • 3

Fit the hex-head drill bit into the drill. Position a sawhorse under the table so it sits parallel to a short edge of the door beneath the pencil marks you made. Center the sawhorse between the two long edges of the door.

    • 4

Drive one wood screw through the door and down into the sawhorse at a pencil mark. Continue driving the screw until it countersinks beneath the surface of the table slightly. Drive the other two wood screws through the door into the sawhorse to finish attaching the sawhorse to the bottom of the door.

    • 5

Repeat the same process with the remaining three wood screws to attach the other sawhorse to the other end of the door.
