How to Build a Poolside Table

Summer is a time for lounging in the sun and swimming in the pool. It is also a lot of fun to entertain family and friends poolside. Many pools do not have large pool decks for placing drinks and food poolside. Every time someone wants a drink or snack, it is necessary to leave the pool to get one. Having a poolside table allows you to serve drinks and snacks right there while people are still swimming. On a hot day, it can be a great place for a pool picnic. Adding an outdoor picnic table umbrella or beach umbrella can also provide a place to get out of the sun but not out of the pool.Making your own poolside table is a fun and unique project that everyone will enjoy. Follow these instructions to make a poolside table that will last for years to come.

  1. How to Make a Poolside Table

      Using the drill, make several small holes approximately 1/4" to 1/2" in diameter into the top of a plastic outdoor table. Drill the holes over the entire surface of the table. These holes will provide the necessary drainage.

      Locate the area where the pool table is going to be placed along the pool. The table can be placed even with the pool wall or it can hang over the side of the pool. Place a heavy object, such as a brick on to the table to keep it steady in the designated place.

      At the opposite end of the table which is hanging over the grass, use the tape measure to measure the length from under the table where the legs are to be inserted down to the ground. Add 8" to this measurement. This is the total length of the legs that will be needed. Saw two legs the total measurement.

      Attach the cut legs to the table and put the table into place. Now make a mark on the grass where the legs will be located. Using the post hole digger, dig two holes 8" deep where the legs of the table will be inserted into the ground. Make the holes approximately 8" wide. .

      With the legs inserted into the table bottom, put the table on the edge of the pool placing the two legs into the open holes. Using the level, make sure the table surface is even, steady and not wobbly. Back fill the holes with dirt and pack down the dirt firmly. The table is now ready for use.
