How to Clean & Repaint a Wicker Chair

Wicker chairs can be a beautiful and practical addition to indoor or outdoor spaces. Unfortunately, after years of wear and tear, wicker furniture can show signs of aging. In a few simple steps, anyone can bring new life to old indoor and outdoor furniture by cleaning and repainting a worn wicker chair.

  1. Cleaning a Wicker Chair for Repainting

      Use a wire brush to scrape old paint off of any solid areas of the wicker chair.

      Vacuum the wicker chair to remove dirt and the chipping paint.

      Dust the wicker chair thoroughly with a damp sponge.

      Let the chair dry completely.

      Use a can of compressed air to blow any remaining dust or dirt from the crevasses between the wicker.

    Repainting a Wicker Chair

      Select an enamel spray paint with which to paint the wicker chair.

      Hold the spray paint 8 to 10 inches away from the wicker chair. Paint with broad, even stokes.

      Cover the wicker chair with one coat of paint and let the chair dry.

      Spray the wicker chair with a second coat of paint.

      Let the wicker chair dry for 48 hours before allowing anyone to sit in the chair.
