Lay the outdoor patio cushions on a clean, hard surface. Use the patio, deck or a rock bed. Avoid grass or dirt areas.
Spray the cushions with the hose. Use a nozzle, if you have one. If not, place your finger over the hose to form a spray. Evenly move the stream of water back and forth over the cushions. Turn them over and spray again.
Use a drop of soap on the sponge. A small amount will go a long way. Scour the patio cushions with the sponge from left to right. Press firmly to lift all of the stuck-on grime. Turn over and scour the other side. Repeat for each cushion.
Moisten the rag. Go over the same path as the sponge, from left to right. This will remove the remaining dirt from the outdoor patio cushions. Rinse the rag frequently and thoroughly. Continue until all of the cushions are clean on both sides.
Spray the cushions with the hose again to remove any remaining dish soap. Remember to use even strokes. Rinse both sides.
Kneel down next to each outdoor patio cushion. Press firmly from the top of the cushion to the end. This will push out most of the water. Hang or lay the cushions in the sun. If you lay them on the ground, remember to turn them over in roughly four or five hours.
