Prepare your workspace by placing a plastic tarp or large sheet of plastic under the piece being treated. This will help avoid damaging or staining the outdoor surface where you’re working.
Rinse off any dirt and mold buildup on the surface of your chairs, using warm water and mild detergent. Before recoating any teak furniture, ensure it's completely clean. Lightly scrub away stains and dirt between cracks. Thoroughly rinse the teak to remove any residue from the detergent. Allow the wood to dry overnight.
Apply teak oil using a soft cloth or brush. Allow one to two hours to dry between coats. Continue the application process until the wood is saturated. Wipe off excess oil with a cloth. Allow to dry overnight.
Apply a coat of teak protector according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The protector will guard the wood from the elements. A higher-quality protector also will help prevent mold and mildew growth.
Seal your teak wood. Teak sealant helps preserve the honey tone of teak by sealing out moisture and dirt and retaining natural oils. Maintain the sealed wood by washing it and applying a fresh coat of sealer every two to three months.
Preserve the look of your teak deck chairs by investing in canvas or vinyl covers. Use covers that allow proper ventilation to prevent mold growth. Covering teak wood when not in use will protect it from weathering and keep it looking new.
