Outdoor Bench Ideas

Imagine sipping your coffee or wine in the cozy confines of your outdoor bench. Benches bring you outside to enjoy the garden and outdoor surroundings. They are an affordable piece of outdoor furniture that can stand alone amongst a perennial garden or can be situated against a wall on your back porch. Have fun nestling them around your outdoor space and finding the ideal spot.
  1. Arbor Bench

    • If you love a shady retreat like an arbor, add a bench to the arbor or pergola for the ultimate outdoor retreat. Some arbors can accommodate a built-in bench along one side of the arbor. The bench is attached to the post of the beams so you have a sturdy support system. If you have an existing arbor, add a standalone bench to one side for a favorite spot to relax. Don't forget that an arbor is not complete without a creeping vine like moonflowers or jasmine. As the flowers begin blooming, the space will fill up with the sweet scent of their blooms.

    Front Porch Bench

    • Add a bench to the entry of your home to create an outdoor "foyer." Use a bench that can be painted a vibrant color to create contrast to the front porch or entry and can help to define the space. This bench provides seating for guests or can be a comfortable spot for putting on your shoes in the morning. Add a set of pillows to help tie in the design and provide comfort to the bench. Make sure the pillows are outdoor and weather resistant to prevent molding and discoloration.

    Wraparound Bench

    • Use a tree in your garden to create a wraparound bench. Have the wood custom fit to the tree trunk for a shady and relaxing setting. Wraparound benches utilize the space well and are an unexpected addition to the outdoor landscape. Having a bench around the tree also provides an area to use for entertaining friends and family. Add a fire pit nearby for roasting marshmallows while sitting comfortably on your tree bench. These are also ideal because they can hold more guests than a typically shaped bench.
