Cut the straps you need to replace with a pair of garden shears or a utility knife. If the straps are still intact, cut them in the center. The straps secure to the chair frame with plastic pins on the back. Pull out each pin by grasping its head with a pair of pliers and pulling straight out.
Measure the distance between the center of the holes for the securing pins on both sides of the chair. Place the edge of the tape measure over the center of one hole. Strap the tape measure around to the other hole, as if you were attaching the tape measure to the chair. Write down the measurement to the center of the second hole.
Measure the width of the straps with a tape measure. Order or purchase your precut straps, giving the supplier the exact measurements. Order or purchase the plastic pins for attaching the straps.
Pour some water in a large pot. Heat the water until it starts to boil. Set the first replacement strap in the pot of hot water for two minutes. Precut straps are 10 percent shorter than your measurements, which allows the straps to be tight after you install them. Heating the straps loosens the material so that you can stretch the straps around the chair.
Pull the strap out of the water with a pair of tongs. Insert a holding pin through one end of the strap. Push the pin through one if the mounting holes, securing the end of the strap to the chair.
Wrap the strap around the side of the chair over to the opposite side. Insert the retaining pin through the strap. Stretch the strap until you can insert the pin into the retaining hole. Push the pin into the retaining hole until the pin locks in place.
Repeat Steps 4 to 6 for each strap, until all the straps are installed.
