The Best Deck Chairs

Decks are an enjoyable asset to any residence. Decks allow people to enjoy the outdoors and nice weather. Unfortunately, weather is not always perfect for enjoying the outdoors. When bad weather strikes, people move indoors, yet what is left outside is forgotten about. Outdoor furniture is an important investment for a deck. Deck chairs must be durable in bad weather and affordable. There are a couple of different types of deck furniture, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
  1. Resin and Plastic

    • Plastic or resin furniture is ideal for pool side locations or anywhere near water. It is the most affordable type of outdoor furniture. It is also the easiest to maintain, simply requiring a quick wipe down with a cloth to clean (some special plastic cleaners may be used). Plastic will not be ruined or damaged by rain and is durable through bad weather. One worry is that plastic chairs are lightweight and easily moved by strong gusts of wind. However, its lightweight quality can also be good because it is easily transportable. Another concern is that plastic is not very comfortable. Cushions can be used to soften the furniture, but cushions are far less weather durable.

    Metal

    • Metal furniture is somewhat more expensive than plastic furniture. Usually made out of aluminum, iron or steel, metal furniture is also highly durable in bad weather with the added benefit of being less likely to blow away with the wind. In addition, metal chairs add a higher aesthetic value to a deck than plastic chairs. Metal chairs come in many beautiful designs to spruce up a deck. Metal furniture requires a little upkeep to maintain. Most metal furniture is rust resistant, but it is a good idea to apply liquid wax a couple of times a year to the outside of the furniture. Also, unlike plastic chairs, which give a little when weight is applied, metal chairs do not give, making them more uncomfortable.

    Wood and Wicker

    • Wood is the most expensive type of outdoor furniture. It, like metal furniture, also brings a high aesthetic quality to a deck. Wood furniture comes in many elegant designs that are pleasing to the eye. Wood is less durable than other options, but with the right upkeep, wood can last a long time. Applying oil and stains is recommended to keep the wood looking like new.

Wicker furniture should only be left outdoors if treated with a special finish. It requires the most upkeep. It is necessary to oil and wax wicker frequently and wash with water to clean out dirt and dust from between the cracks.
