How to Protect the Sling Material on a Patio Chair

Outdoor sling chairs come in all different kinds of materials from wood to aluminum. They range in price as well, from just a few dollars at places like Walmart or Lowes to hundreds of dollars at specialty shops. The slings are usually made of a vinyl-coated material or natural cloth that prevent against moisture penetration and mold and mildew. In order to keep them for more than a season, however, the slings themselves must be protected and maintained.

Limit hard use on the chairs. Try not to let children bounce on the slings. Also do not stand on the chairs, as that puts uneven pressure on the slings, causing them to stretch or tear from the frame.

Clean any spills as soon as you notice them. Use water and a mild soap to remove sunscreen and sunscreen, juice and food residue. Leaving spills on the chair will promote the growth of mold and mildew even if they are waterproof, as mold grows in dirt, not fabric. Make sure to rinse the soap thoroughly or dirt will stick to the residue when it dries.

Take your sling chairs indoors for the winter, protecting them from the elements. This way, they will be easier to clean in the spring and you will not have to deal with the weight of snow, the freezing temperatures or excessive moisture.
