How to Change Indoor Furniture to Outdoor Furniture

There are some things you can do to change your indoor furniture to outdoor furniture. Consider the materials your furniture is made from before moving it outside, as some materials won't hold up to certain weather conditions. Teak, cedar, oak and wicker are common materials for outdoor furniture due to their weather-resistant characteristics. But even if your furniture is made of other materials, it's possible to enjoy the furniture outdoors as well as indoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand down any wood parts of your furniture. This preps it for you to stain, seal or paint it with a product made specifically to withstand adverse weather outdoors. Use a small paintbrush to apply the stain, seal or paint evenly all over the wood.

    • 2

Reupholster any cushions or fabric with weather-resistant material. If you don't want to cover the current fabric, at least spray it with a water-repellent fabric spray.

    • 3

Cover all of the furniture with a heavy weather-resistant cover when not in use or during extreme weather conditions. This will help the furniture last longer.
