How to Clean Outdoor Furniture Cushions

Outdoor furniture, frequently called patio furniture, is specifically made to withstand water, sun exposure and minor stains. Although most outdoor furniture is designed to be exposed to the elements and left outside year-round, regular maintenance and cleaning will help improve the life of the cushions and give them a more pleasant look.

Instructions

    • 1
Outdoor furniture comes in a variety of styles.

Fill bucket with warm water and add enough dish soap to form suds.

    • 2

Saturate the sponge with soapy water. Scrub the outdoor furniture cushions on both sides. Pay close attention to the details on the cushions, such as pleats, crevices and piping.

    • 3

Rinse cushions with a garden hose to remove excess soap.

    • 4

Stand the cushion upright to speed the drying time.

    • 5

Maintain cushions by wiping away dust with a dry cloth, shaking off excess debris.

    • 6

Apply a waterproof seal or fabric and upholstery protector if the cushions no longer bead water when wet. These products are available at home centers, furniture stores or online. Follow manufacturer's instructions for application.
