How to Make Adirondack Chairs From Salvage Fence Planks

Measure two sections of planking that are 24-inches long by 3-inches wide with the tape measure. Cut the planks to the required length with the circular saw. These will be the front legs of the chair.

Measure and cut two arm rests that measure 32-inches long by 4-inches wide. Measure and cut two seat supports that measure 35-inches long by 4-inches high. Measure and cut to leg supports that measure 22-inches high by 2-inches wide.

Measure and cut one crosspiece that measures 23-inches long by 4-inches high. Measure and cut the bottom back brace, which measures 27-inches long by 3-inches wide. Measure and cut a top back brace that measures 24-inches long by 3-inches wide.

Measure and cut six seat slats that measure 23-inches long by 5-inches wide. Measure and cut six back slats that measure 44-inches long by 4-inches wide. Cut two pieces of blocking that measure
2-inches wide by 4-inches long.

Round the ends of the seat supports with the jig saw and then cut a 45-degree angle on the other end with the circular saw.

Attach the crosspiece to the seat supports with the nail gun. Drive three nails into the crosspiece and into the seat supports.

Measure the front leg supports with the tape measure and make a mark at 6 inches with the pencil. Place the front legs on the crosspiece at the pencil marks and attach them with the nail gun. Drive six nails on each side into the crosspiece and seat supports. This will create the base of the chair.

Lay the seat slats onto the base of the chair and attach then with the nail gun. Place three nails on each end of the seat slat.

Cut a 45-degree angle into one edge of the top and bottom back brace with the table saw. Attach the bottom back brace to the leg supports and then attach the leg supports to the back of the seat supports.

Attach the two pieces of blocking to the top of the front legs. Place the arm rests on the bottom back support and the front legs. Attach the arm rest with the nail gun.

Insert the top back brace in-between the arm rests and attach it to the bottom back brace. Set the back slats into place on the back of the chair. Secure them to the top and bottom back brace to complete the project.
