Instructions

    • 1

Wash the chair and remove old, frayed webbing. Turn the chair over to see what type of fastener was used in the construction of your chair. Remove screws with a screwdriver, or loosen nuts with a wrench. Set the pieces of webbing aside.

    • 2

Measure the removed lengths of webbing and cut new replacement webbing according to those measurements.

    • 3

Fold one end of the webbing to form a point. Make a diagonal fold by bringing the top right corner down toward the left edge. Align the edges neatly to make a right-angle triangle. Fold the top left corner down toward the right edge. You should have a configuration that resembles a pyramid or triangle. Puncture a hole in the center, near the triangle's point, with your awl.

    • 4

Face the back or underside of the chair. Fold the webbing over the frame with the triangle pointing towards you. Align the punched hole with the hole in the aluminum. Replace the screw or nut to hold the new webbing in place.

    • 5

Weave the webbing in and out of the existing strips. Follow the same pattern that is already there.

    • 6

Pull the webbing taut. Fold a triangle on the end as before and pull it over the hole in the aluminum. Unfold the triangle and trim the webbing if there is too much material. Refold the triangle.

    • 7

Mark the webbing at the site of the hole and poke a hole through the material. Reattach the screw or nut. Open and close the chair to make sure the webbing fits properly. It should be taut without impeding the function of the chair. Remove the end closure and adjust the webbing if needed.

Complete all of the horizontal or vertical strips before changing directions. Open and close the chair after each strip of webbing and readjust if needed before beginning another strip.
