Remove the end cap that locks the sling seat into the PVC chair. Place the tip of the flat-head screwdriver under the end cap and pry it loose. Grasp the end cap with the pliers to completely remove it from the chair frame. Set aside the end caps.
Remove the old fabric on the sling seat from the PVC chair frame. Use a utility knife to cut the fabric vertically down the middle of the sling seat, from top to bottom. Loosen the sling seat fabric by pulling it away from the chair frame. Spray the fabric nearest the frame with the diluted soapy water and allow it time to absorb. Grasp the bottom of the sling seat fabric and pull it downward and out of the PVC chair frame. Loosen any stuck pieces of fabric with the flat-head screwdriver.
Remove all the bolts that hold the sling seat frame intact with the allen wrench, as well as those that secure the spreader bars that run horizontally between the PVC chair frame.
Open the package that holds the replacement sling seat with the utility knife and remove all the included parts. Slide the plastic rods, or sling splines, into the tubular openings on both sides of the replacement sling seat. Allow some of the plastic rod to protrude from each end.
Orient the replacement sling seat so that the care tag is facing upward. This is the top of the sling seat.
Grasp the bottom corner of one side of the sling seat and slide it into the corresponding channel on the PVC chair frame. Draw the sling seat downward while you make sure that it remains in the channel. Repeat with the opposite side of the sling seat.
Replace all the bolts and tighten them loosely with your fingers.
Grasp the bottom of the sling seat with the pliers and pull it firmly and evenly toward the bottom rail on the PVC chair frame. Tighten the bottom bolts completely with the allen wrench.
Stand at the back of the chair and grasp the top of the sling seat fabric with the pliers. Pull it upward, eliminating any wrinkles in the seat while you create a taut surface on the PVC chair. Hold the fabric in place with clamps.
Tighten the top bolts with the allen wrench.
Reinstall the spreader bars on the PVC chair frame. Lay the chair face down, so the back of the chair faces upward. Bend the spreader bar slightly and insert it into the holes on the side of the chair frame. Pound it gently with the rubber mallet to completely insert the spreader bar. Secure the spreader bar with bolts, if applicable.
Cut the excess sling spline plastic tubing with a pair of sturdy scissors. Replace the end caps. Push them in place by hand and then pound them gently into place with the rubber mallet.
