Vintage Lawn Chair Repair Supplies

Vintage lawn chairs offer retro charm and have proven themselves to be durable. Otherwise, they wouldn't have made it to "vintage" status. Vintage lawn chairs have several areas that may require repair: the frame, the webbing or fabric and the hardware. A vintage lawn chair may have problems with one, two or all three of these areas. Most chairs can be salvaged and repaired with some simple supplies and a few hours of work time.
  1. Paint

    • The most useful type of paint for repairing a vintage lawn chair is spray paint. Spray paint will bond to metal, plastic and wood. It will work for any type of vintage lawn chair. The paint can be the same color as the existing paint or it can be any color you would like. Most spray paint lines offer an extensive range of choices and finishes.

    Fabric or Webbing

    • Fabric or webbing is used to create the seat and back of the chair. In some cases, the original back fabric or webbing can be salvaged and a matching fabric can be found for the seat. Fabric can also be used to create or replace vintage lawn chair pillows. Fabric used for a vintage lawn chair should be designed for outdoor use.

    Hardware

    • Over time, the hardware holding a vintage lawn chair together may become rusted or corroded. There are several options for hardware. Sometimes, the existing pieces can be cleaned or tightened and left in place (they can be coated with paint if desired). In cases where the existing hardware is too far gone, it should be replaced with newer, stronger counterparts.
