How do I Vent Patio Doors?

Most patio doors consist of sliding glass panels, which are beneficial because they easily slide open. Patio doors are convenient when you want to go out to the patio for outdoor enjoyment, or you can leave them open to vent you home with fresh air. When the weather becomes cool, glass patio doors can be subjected to a build-up of moisture resulting from excess humidity on a cool surface, also known as condensation.

Instructions

    • 1

Install dual-paneled insulating glass units if your patio doors are older. Insulating glass units are less subjective to humidity and condensation; they are self-venting.

    • 2

Open the window blinds on your patio window doors or expose a portion of the window if you have curtains. This will give the patio doors more room to circulate air. If your blinds are closed, it traps the warm air on the glass.

    • 3

Turn on a ceiling fan or plug in your electric fan and direct it towards the patio windows. This will help vent the patio doors and keep them cool and prevent build-up of moisture.

    • 4

Raise the temperature in your home slightly, about one to two degrees higher to help prevent your patio door from accumulating moisture.

    • 5

Open windows and consider opening the patio door slightly. This works best if you also have a vent panel installed so that you can keep the bugs out by letting the air circulate inwards.
