How to Decorate Patio Umbrellas

Patio furniture creates a comfortable area in which to enjoy the great outdoors. Tables, chairs and benches are used for seating, eating and entertaining on a deck or patio area. Umbrellas used with a table or seating provide relief from the sun or even light rain. The space under a patio umbrella provides an opportunity for decorating to add interest and appeal to the area. The use of lights with an umbrella, for example, helps to extend the use of the patio well into the night.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the type of lighting to use on the patio umbrella. Consider the style of the umbrella as well as the furniture and overall theme of the area.

    • 2

Run an extension cord from an outdoor electrical outlet to the patio. Position the cord safely across the patio and up to the base of the patio table with the umbrella.

    • 3

String holiday lights along the edge of the umbrella as well as the supports. Wind the sting lights tightly along the supports and edge for a neat appearance.

    • 4

Choose themed string lights for the umbrella. Select lights in the shape of peppers, beer cans, mini oriental lanterns and other objects based on personal preference and the over all theme of the umbrella or area.

    • 5

Hang one or two lanterns from the umbrella supports. Chose larger oriental lanterns, traditional style camping lanterns or other styles that support the theme.

    • 6

Wrap the electrical wire leading to the plug down the support pole of the umbrella. Connect the electrical plug on the end of the string lights to the extension cord for power.
