How to Put Together a Hammock

Nothing says summer relaxation like spending a lazy afternoon outdoors taking a nap in a gently swinging hammock. One study, done by Swiss researchers and published in "Health" magazine, has shown that people get more restful sleep when laying in a hammock. There are several theories why hammocks create a better sleep environment. Some people feel that the gentle rocking reminds them of their mother rocking them as a baby while others think that hammocks simulate a gentle hug. You can assemble a hammock in a few minutes and start napping in the wink of an eye.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out all the pieces of the stand on the ground. Locate the center bottom tube and rotate it so that the retaining hole is facing up.

    • 2

Slide the center tube over the short, bent arm of a crosspiece. Slightly depress the silver button to get it into the tube and rotate the tube until the silver button pops up through the hole. Repeat for the other side.

    • 3

Slide a straight side tube onto the outer arm of the bent crosspiece and rotate it until the button pops into the hole. Help the side arm tube slide over the button by pressing it down slightly if necessary. Twist the tube from side to side if you have difficulty guiding the pop-up button into the hole. Repeat for the other side. You will now have the hammock stand assembled.

    • 4

Insert a hook into the hole at the top of elevated arm on each end of the hammock stand. Both ends of the hook are the same, so insert either end into the stand.

    • 5

Unroll the hammock bed and slip the ring at the end of the support ropes over one hook. Pull the hammock across to the other elevated arm of the hammock stand and put the other ring over the hook at that end. Adjust the cross bars that keep the support ropes separated, so that they sit next to the cloth of the hammock bed.
