Hints for Hanging a Double Hammock

A double hammock fits larger individuals or two people who want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. When you purchase a double hammock the first thing you need to focus on is where to hang it. You don't want your hammock to hang too low to the ground or fall down when there is too much weight in it, which puts you and your friends or family at risk for minor or serious injuries.

Instructions

    • 1

Use either two trees close together but with enough space to hang the hammock with 5 to 6 inches of space on each end or position two poles with enough space between them to fit the hammock and have 5 to 6 inches on each end to allow for movement without hitting the poles. Use a tape measure to check the distance. Select trees at least 12 inches in diameter or poles that are firmly anchored in the ground, preferably with cement.

    • 2

Use screw hooks or long eye bolts, or enough rope to wrap around the tree twice to hold the hammock up. Link the hooks or bolts to the hammock using a chain link connector.

    • 3

Mount the hammock high enough off the ground so that there is at least 4 to 5 feet to the ground when it hangs loosely. With a double hammock, you're likely to have more weight, which means you may want to hang it a bit higher to avoid it resting too low to the ground when occupied.
