How to Remove the Powder Coating From Aluminum Garden Furniture

Aluminum garden furniture typically has a powder coating over the metal protecting it from rust. Instructions

    • 1

Scrape loose paint from the aluminum garden furniture with steel wool or a medium-grade emery cloth. Wipe the dust away with a tack cloth.

    • 2

Washing the furniture with a 1,300- to 1,800-psi power washer removes oxidation on the metal. This pressure level is suitable to clean garden furniture.

    • 3

Pour a small amount of lacquer thinner onto a clean cloth and rub it over the aluminum. You may need to rub it hard to remove the oxidation.
