How to Make an Ottoman Frame

You have the perfect chair but you don’t have a place to rest your feet. An ottoman can make the chair complete, serving as a functional and decorative addition to your home furnishings. Finding an ottoman to match your décor can be a challenge, but you can craft your own by attaching box floor cushions to a homemade ottoman frame. Simple lumber, tools and some creativity are all you will need for this project.

Plywood
Box floor cushions
Wooden trim pieces
Construction glue
Woodworking clamps
Finish nails
Hammer
Circular saw
Wooden feet or casters
Stain or paint
Paintbrush

Instructions

  Measure your box floor cushions. Cut a piece of ¾-inch plywood to match the size of cushions with a circular saw. You can ask the associate at the home improvement center to cut the lumber when you are purchasing it.

  Measure and cut trim mold to fit around the outside of the plywood. Cut the corners at a 45-degree angle.

  Run a line of construction adhesive around the outside edge of the plywood. Set the trim pieces in place around the perimeter. Clamp in place. Allow the glue to dry for two hours.

  Hammer finish nails into the wood trim to secure it to the plywood.

  Turn the ottoman base over and place the feet or casters on the bottom. Place all four feet ½ an inch from the edge of the corners. Spread construction adhesive on the top of the feet. Press in place. Allow the glue to dry.

  Hammer finish nails to secure the feet to the wood.

  Paint or stain the ottoman frame to match your décor. The frame can be used with box floor cushions or any other style of pillow that you like.
