How to Make an Ottoman With Casters

As one of the most versatile pieces of furniture, an ottoman can serve as a footrest, as casual seating, or, if you set a tray on top, it becomes an instant coffee table. Create your own rolling ottoman so you can effortlessly move this convenient piece of furniture anywhere around your room, adapting it to the most pressing need of the moment. Make an ottoman that uses multiple box cushions, rendering it even more useful. If you need more seating, just un-stack the floor cushions and distribute them.

Things You'll Need

  • Three floor cushions, box-style
  • 1/2 sheet of 2-inch pine, cut same size as purchased cushions
  • Saw
  • Sandpaper

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your pine to match your cushions’ dimensions. Sand away any rough edges you created when cutting. Paint the pine to match your cushion, or paint it a complimentary shade; or stain the wood.

    • 2

Drill four pilot holes for your casters in each corner of your pine. Attach the casters to each hole using any included hardware or screws.

    • 3

Turn the base you just constructed onto its wheels. Place the cushions on top, one cushion at a time, in a stacked formation. Sit, rest your feet or place a tray on top.
