Making a Foot Stool

A foot stool is a handy piece of furniture for a living room, den or bedroom décor. Besides providing a comfortable place to put your feet while relaxing, a foot stool can serve as a coffee table with the addition of a serving tray. This upholstered foot stool can be made if you have basic carpentry skills and tailored with fabric and trim to coordinate with any room. A large remnant of ultrasuede or upholstery fabric could be used for this no-sew footstool.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut five pieces of plywood that measure 12 inches square each with the table saw. Glue the pieces together at right angles to form a square foot stool box base with the wood glue. When the glue has dried completely, pound in penny nails with the hammer to secure the connections.

    • 2

Glue the fifth piece of plywood to the top of the base and nail it in place.

    • 3

Cut a piece of quilt batting to measure 12 inches by 36 inches with the scissors. Glue it to one side, the top and down the opposite side of the wooden base, using a small amount of glue with the hot glue gun. Cut two pieces of batting to measure 12 inches square and glue them to the remaining sides of the base.

    • 4

Cut the upholstery fabric to measure 40 inches square. Place the fabric square wrong-side up on a table. Place the upside-down foot stool base in the center of the fabric.

    • 5

Pull the fabric to one center inside edge of the upside-down foot stool base and staple it in place, using the staple gun. Moving to opposite sides after every staple insertion, staple the entire piece of fabric to the base, folding the fabric at right angles at the corners.

Turn the foot stool right side up. Attach the bullion fringe to the outer edges of the foot stool with the hot glue gun.
