Instructions for How to Recover a Poof Chair

A poof chair is a stool-like chair that is made completely from fabric -- it is basically a large pillow that can be used as a chair or ottoman. If the original fabric on a poof chair tears or you no longer enjoy the fabric, you can remove the original fabric and replace it, using the original fabric as a pattern guide. Some poofs are only stuffed and do not have an inner pillow or wood pieces to give it structure. If this is the case with your poof, then you can add the stuffing back inside the new upholstery once you sew it together.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the original upholstery from the poof chair using a staple remover and seam ripper.

    • 2

Place the original upholstery over the new upholstery and cut out the pieces from the new fabric.

    • 3

Sew the upholstery pieces together around the seam lines.

    • 4

Fit the new upholstery pieces over the poof chair. If the chair does not have a wood core or pillow in the center, stuff the new upholstery cover with the original stuffing or new polyester stuffing.

    • 5

Sew the fabric to the poof using thread and a curved upholstery needle to secure the fabric to the poof.

    • 6

Add a fabric-covered button to the center of the poof for a professional look.
